Researching Downeast Maine and Maritime Canada Families Together

Moses Craig Family of Maine and New Brunswick

My g. grandfather, Joseph Craig, was born in Calais, ME in 1860.  His parents were Moses A. Craig and Margaret Alexander, married in 1859 at the Greenock Presbyterian Church, St. Andrews, NB.  Moses is a descendant of Loyalists David Craig and Mary Steele.  Margaret is a mystery.  She may be the daughter of Thomas and Jane Alexander who emigrated from County Down in 1822, but no birth record or death record for her have been found.  My g. grandfather moved to Lowell MA in 1879 and that is the area that I am from.  I have spent nine years researching my Maine and NB roots and am excited to have been accepted to your group. I am happy to share my Craig genealogical finds.

Moses moved briefly to Lowell after Joseph was injured in a railroad accident.  Moses is listed in the 1880 Lowell census as a widower. He married Catherine 'Jane' Rogers Keith, a widow, in 1881.

Will take a look tomorrow.   Could Margaret have married again if Moses predeceased her?    Wonder if there is a Lowell area death record for a Margaret with a similar birth date...  One good thing, more and more records are coming online every day.
