Researching Downeast Maine and Maritime Canada Families Together

John D. Williams, born Portland, Maine; mentioned in journal of Walt Whitman, who was Attending CW Soldiers at Washington DC Hospital

There's an intriguing entry in the journal of Walt Whitman, kept while he was attending to ill and injured servicemen, both Union and Confederate, at Washington, D. C. during the Civil War.

He may be the John D. B. Andrews, son of Ephraim and Martha Louise (Cobb), who after the war married Catherine Ann Powers of Prince Edward Island.  They moved to Florida, where John died 3 June 1906 at Glen St. Mary, Baker, Florida.

John was a mariner and may have served in the Navy during the Civil War.

If you have a theory as to the identity of John D. Andrews and information on what had happened to John at the hospital at City Point, prior to moving to the hospital where Whitman served, please leave a comment.  Thanks!
