Jesse Gleason, b. 1833 in Washington County, Maine; m. Emily Bearce, born 1838, Buckfield, Maine; lived at Perry, Maine

Jesse Gleason was born 19 December 1833, the son of John and Harriet (possibly Gale) Gleason, both Massachusetts natives who moved to Perry, Maine.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas and Hannah (possibly Hill) Gleason.

If a reader has information on Jesse's mother Harriet (possibly Gale) Gleason, please leave a comment.

Jesse was the nephew of Jesse Gleason, the merchant at Eastport, Maine, partner in Gleason & Houghton.

In 1858 in Perry, Maine, Jesse married Emily Bearce, who was born in December of 1838 at Buckfield, Maine, the daughter of Isaac and Bathsheba Churchill (Long) Bearce.  It appears that Isaac moved his family to Perry, Maine, after his wife Bathsheba died in 1840.

Emily's paternal grandparents were Isaac and Abigail "Nabby" (Bonney) Bearce, Massachusetts natives who moved to the Androscoggin and Oxford County area of Maine.   Her maternal grandparents were Thomas and Bathsheba (Churchill) Long.  Their photographs are below:

         Bathsheba Churchill (1776-1853)

Isaac later married Fannie M., who was born about 1825 in Maine, and had four children with Isaac: Isaac, born about 1844; Abbie, born about 1846;  Georgianna, born about 1850; and Persis, born about 1851.

Jesse and Emily (Bearce) Gleason raised a family of at least four children in Perry, Maine:

  • Jesse C. Gleason, born in January of 1862 at Perry, Maine; he died in 1931
  • Jane Gleason, born about 1864 at Perry, Maine;
  • John Gleason, born about 1865 at Perry, Maine; m. Dora Pearl Higgins, born January 1889 at Caswell, Maine; John died 1918
  • Edith Gleason, born about 1869 at Perry, Maine; died 1878 at Perry, Maine

If you have any corrections, additions or insights regarding any of the information provided above or in the family trees of Jesse Gleason and Emily (Bearce) Gleason below, please leave a comment.
