Researching Downeast Maine and Maritime Canada Families Together
I've been searching for information on a Donald Robertson b. Scotland and wife Elise (Manderson or Anderson or Henderson) both of whom, at one point, lived in New Brunswick. I'm not sure if it was Charlotte County or not. There is very little information other than Donald died circa 1862 (possibly in NB) and Elsie was born (possibly) in St. John, NB and died circa 1870 in Calais, ME. My verified records start with Donald and Elisie's son Thomas Donald Robertson b. Dec. 31, 1862 in Calais, ME. I know it's not much to go on as I've found tons of Donald Robertsons in the Canada/Maine area at that time, but I'm throwing this out there in the hopes that someone has something!
Have you tried the New Brunswick Provincial Archives? I looked on Ancestry, and there were several online family trees that members had made, but none of them had Thomas' parents, so you are farther along than they are. The other thing I might suggest is the Daniel F. Johnson newspaper transcriptions and then actually looking for newspapers of the era. Did Thomas have any siblings? Might help you connect with a previously unknown cousin who has more info - Bible, letters, diary, ect.
I don't believe he had siblings, but I'm double checking to be positive. I know he had several children though. I will look into the Provincial Archives and the newspaper transcriptions. Thanks so much for the reply and suggestions!
